Books and Houses

I just realized how long it's been since I've posted anything so I thought I'd do a quick update

I went to France last weekend, but I'm waiting to get some pictures from someone before I post about that, so it's coming soon. But in the meantime...

It was my friend Sarah's B-Day this month, so for her present I decided to make her a book out of her blog, since she doesn't keep a journal, or photo albums or anything. I used the website Shutterfly. If you haven't seen it you should check it out, it's awesome. It provides you with basic layouts and you can add pics and text and modify it however you want. It's easy and awesome, and her book turned out really well! These are just some preview pics of what it looked like after it was printed.




My next goal in life is to turn my own blog into books. And while I'm on the subject of books...My friend Christa gave me this AWESOME book.

It is a book of everything you ever needed to know how to do, and some not so much. But it has everything from how to use chopsticks, to how to sew moccasins, to how to fix a hole in drywall, to how to evade a panther attack, to how to breathe fire. And everything is laid out in step by step picture instructions. This is a page on how to make a snow globe and other Christmas decorations.
It's freaking amazing.

In other news... Since I'm moving to Utah I've decided I want to buy a house. I'm currently in the process of putting in an offer on this little place.



It's a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom with a 2 car garage and a nice little fenced in back yard. It's close to a shopping center with a walmart and maceys and all sorts of other useful stores, and only about 10 min from work. That lady in the picture is my aunt, who happens to be a real estate agent in Salt Lake. I won't bore you with all the details, but lets just say that so far things seem to be falling in to place. We'll see what happens, but I'm super excited about it. If I get it I'll invite you all over for a BBQ on my patio :)

An Update of Many Things

It's been awhile since I've updated so this blog will cover a few different topics:

I'll start with a House Update:
I've finally gotten most of the furniture I'll be acquiring for awhile.
The blue chair, coffee table, and end table are all loaner furniture from the AF so they will be going away soon. And I found that rug today at the BX and I LOVE it. It matches perfectly with my couch, chair, and the curtains I am planning on buying. Not to mention my Mexican blanket on my couch.


The bedroom set came in pieces so I had to put it together myself.

I got the bed together on my own but I enlisted the help of Jeremy and the Elders to put the Schrunk (aka wardrobe) together.

So that's the House Update.
I shall now move on to the Work Update:
First, for those of you who are unfamiliar with Air Force structure, I need to give a little lesson. For those of you who are, you can completely skip this part -
The structure is as follows Wing>Group>Squadron>Flight>Unit(or element). The Wing usually covers pretty much everyone on base (that I'm aware of) but here we're different and have 3 Wings cuz we're huge. Then it breaks down from there. When I got here I was working at the Flight level. My flight had about 200 people (which is pretty large for a flight) and the flight commander is a Captain.
Well our Group commander (a full bird Colonel) decided he wanted to take it upon himself to "mentor" all the new LTs in the group. There are 7 of us. Well I happen to be the first "lucky" one to spend 6-8 weeks up at the group. I was not really happy with the idea at first but I have since come to really enjoy it. I don't know that I'm learning much that will help me for tech school, but I am basically the special projects officer and am usually REALLY busy. Just yesterday I gave my first real AF briefing on an new inspection program that I am now the resident expert on. And it went really well. My Chief said it was like I had been giving briefings my whole life :) I felt good about that.
I also have a pretty nice office now.

And the group commander's exec is super awesome. He's a TSgt and I chill in his office a lot when I have nothing to do. And the vice group commander is also way chill. He's a Lt Col and helps me out a lot with all my projects and answering my questions and stuff.
Tomorrow I'm in a golf tournament with the Col. Should be a good time.

Other Things Update
So if you remember my Paris trip, I went with Ariana, who, before Paris, I didn't actually know. Well her and I ended up becoming super tight after that trip. The following weekend we went downtown just to chill and eat and stuff. We ended up chilling at this little restaurant for 5 hours. It was awesome.

Sadly, Ari was only here for the summer and went back home to Utah just a week after our Paris trip :( I'm still trying to convince her she should move back.

I still have a couple more new things of furniture to put up so you'll get another house update eventually.

Back from Storage

I finally got my stuff back from storage today and got it all set up in my new place. I don't have any real furniture yet so it's still looking pretty empty. But I was surprised how many cupboards and shelves I actually did fill. It might be a lot of junk, but it's MY junk :)

My Chair :) Oh how I've missed you.


My TV is looking pretty small up against a giant empty wall. I'm planning on purchasing a large entertainment center to help fill some space and give me more shelves.

This is currently my piano corner. When I get my guitar it will be upgraded to a full fledged music corner.

This will one day be my guest room. But as of now, having no guests- and no furniture for that matter, it is the room for my shoes.

This will be my office/sewing-and-all-other-craftiness room.

My kitchen cupboards have things in them :) And there's a shelf for my Jones bottles up top (for those of you who were aware of this collection)

A roof and wheels

So this week was the week of big purchases.

I decided to get a used car for now and then before I leave I'm going to buy a new custom BMW (328xi for those of you who are wondering). I bought this 98 BMW 323i to get me around for now. Except for the fact that it has no cup holders - it's a pretty good little car.


I also went house shopping this week. After looking at about 6 different places I found one that I LOVE. It's about 20 min away from base in the little village of Erlenbach. I got really lucky too. There were already two other people scheduled to look at it the day after I called but I managed to talk her in to letting me look that day. If I had called a day later I probably wouldn't have gotten it. It's all on one floor (which is unusual for here). I'm on the main floor. This is a view from the back. This is the living room, and that doorway to the left leads to the entry way. The entry way is about as big as the living room in my last place.

There's also a laundry room/pantry, some closets, a garage and a tiny basement for storage. I really am not sure what I'm going to do with all this space. But the AF is going to give me furniture to fill it with until I buy something of my own. I'll get more pics up when I actually get all moved in.
And an awesome thing about the AF - I don't have to use any of my monthly pay to pay for this place. They pay me extra to cover the rent (about $1300). I love the AF :)
