Stormin' the Castle

Last week my sister and brother in law were able to fly out to Germany and hang out with me for a week. It was so fun! Sadly I still had to work while they were here, but I was able to get off early a few days and we got to do some traveling (which equals a lot of pictures for this post - and even more on facebook).

Wed: Trier! It's the oldest city in Germany and has some pretty cool stuff to see.

This is the original gate into the city

In a cathedral

That's an organ up on the wall

At Constantine's Palace

Some ruins that we never really figured out what they were

There's an old roman amphitheater (gladiators and stuff) - but it closed 5 min before we got there so we had to take pics through the fence

Friday: Heidelberg! Probably my most favorite city in Germany that I've been to so far. I've blogged about this place before so if it looks familiar, that's why.

Climbing the stairs to the castle (there were A LOT of them)

I realized I never really got a picture of the whole castle - but that's it in the background. It's more like ruins of a castle

I LOVE how green it is here!

We had waffles for dinner and they were SOOO good!

We stayed at a hotel that night and there was a "fire" channel. It was almost like a real fireplace...but not...

Saturday: Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau - The former also known as the fairy-tale castle built by Ludwig II. The latter was his home when he was younger. It's an interesting history. If you don't know it- you should look it up!

Hohenschwangau- We went here first and got a tour of the inside, but they don't let you take pics inside

Hiking up to Neuschwanstein. It was very rainy all day

Neuschwanstein! We got a tour inside here too, but it was actually never finished so you only get to see little parts of it.

It's really tall

My GPS took us momentarily into Austria. On the way home we drove around there for about 30 minutes trying to find a gas station.

All in all it was an awesome week! I'm so glad they got to come and we got to go see so many things (and eat so much good food!). Love you guys - Come back soon!
The rest of you - Come visit me too!
